Bochum lose 0-1 to FSV Frankfurt

VfL Bochum 1848 were beaten 1-0 by FSV Frankfurt in their last mid-season friendly on 29 January 2012. Bergmann’s men engineered several scoring chances but were punished for their wastefulness as Frankfurt’s Samil Cinaz netted the only goal of the game eleven minutes from time to snatch the win.

Bochum boss Andreas Bergmann deployed a 4-4-2 formation, naming Hólmar Örn Eyjolfsson alongside Jonas Acquistapace in central midfield.

The hosts started the better of the two sides and dominated the opening period. Mimoun Azaouagh carved out the first opportunity of the game on 13 minutes, setting up Takahi Inui in front of goal, but the Japanese striker dragged his effort wide, before Mirkan Aydin directed his header over the bar from inside the box with the goal gaping. Bochum continued to hold the upper hand but were unable to convert their dominance into goals. With the half-time whistle beckoning, Aydin forced Klandt into a smart save, before Chadli Amri had two scoring chances denied at the other end.

After the restart, Bochum picked up where they left off before the interval. Bergmann’s charges had more of the ball and continued to push forward but were not clinical enough in front of goal. Bochum boss Bergmann made some changes to his side and substitutions began to take their toll as the game lost pace midway through the second half. The Ruhr valley outfit produced several little mistakes, offering their opponents opportunities on a silver plate.

With around ten minutes remaining, Bochum were punished for their wastefulness as FSV Frankfurt skipper Samil Cinaz fired a cannoning free-kick past Luthe and into the net to seal the win. Chong Tese almost netted the equaliser in the dying seconds, but Klandt was on hand to deny the North Korean striker.
