Matthias Ostrzolek leaves VfL Bochum 1848 after 14 years at the club. The 21-year-old central defender put pen to paper on a deal through to June 2015. The contract is valid for both top divisions of the German game, with the clubs agreeing not make any further details public.
Ostrzolek, who was born Bochum, joined the Ruhr valley outfit in 1997 at the age of seven. He went through all youth teams and made his Regionalliga (fourth tier of the German football league system) debut in 2009. Ostrzolek signed his first professional contract with VfL Bochum in January 2011. His contract was originally valid until 2013.
The former Germany Under-21 international (5 caps) has made 33 Bundesliga 2 appearances for Bochum, scoring no goal.
“It was not an easy decision. In addition to the economic aspects of the transfer, we hope Matthias will benefit from this switch,” sporting director Jens Todt commented on the deal.
